VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED BY WELLS RESERVE AND LAUDHOLM TRUST

WELLS, MAINE - Nearly 150 volunteers gathered on the Laudholm campus of the Wells Reserve on August 19 to be honored by Laudholm Trust and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve.

The two organizations depend on volunteerism for education programs and research projects, special events and long-range planning, groundskeeping and stewardship, visitor services and many other activities. Nearly 500 volunteers contributed over 15,000 hours last year, according to Nancy Viehmann, Volunteer Programs Coordinator.

At the annual volunteer recognition dinner, the following people were recognized for their important involvement at the Wells Reserve and Laudholm Trust:

  • Frank and Carol Heller, Laudholm Award
  • Eileen Willard, Lily Rice Kendall Volunteer Spirit Award
  • Tim Spahr, Conservation Award
  • Judith Hansen, publisher of Tourist News, Laudholm Good Neighbor Award
  • Kate Reynolds, Contributions to Research Award

Wells Reserve and Laudholm Trust also recognized several Volunteers Extraordinaire for their activities over the past year. They were Stu Flavin, Dana Foster, Carol Horne, Vivian Howe, Joanna Olson, Bob Rutledge, Amanda Spenlinhauer, and Tony Viehmann.

The leaders and members of southern Maine's beach profiling teams received special recognition for their year round monitoring efforts.
